The Baron, Castle Hill

A few weeks ago I visited one of my favourite new brunch spots – The Baron. It’s a fantastic café located in the heart of The Hills District and is already extremely popular with the locals. Located next to the Castle Towers shopping centre it is an oasis of strong coffee, friendly service and tasty, tasty food.

As you approach The Baron you will notice a queue of people waiting to be seated – don’t let this put you off as the line tends to move fairly quickly and if you’re happy to sit outside those tables tend to come up first.

The people and menu look like they’ve been transported from Surry Hills or Newtown and while you enjoy your food you could forget that you’re approximately 30 kilometres from the Sydney city centre.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit The Baron several times over the past couple of months and on every visit I’ve been overwhelmed by my indecision to choose a dish. It’s not that the menu is extraordinarily long but every single item appeals to me which is why it’s good to bring a friend so you can share.

On my latest visit we ate the following:

Banana bread with passion fruit butter

Passion fruit butter is the food of the gods. The perfect start to our brunch.

Meatballzzzz - with chilli parmesan & slow roasted tomato salad on a toasted rye

Juicy meatballs with a zesty salad and rye to mop up the juices. Yum!

Ploughman’s Lunch – selection of cured meats, cheese, fresh fruit ‘n nuts & chutney

Quality ingredients make the most simple of dishes perfect.

I think I’ll make it my mission over the next few months to try all the items on the menu. The Baron is open 7 days a week so why not head out to The Hills District and test it our yourself? I promise you won’t be disappointed.
